When Star Wars first came out, in 1977, one of the many amazing things about it was its robotic characters, R2-D2 and C-3PO, played by the actors Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels respectively. A new Star Wars saga has started, and it has a real robot as one of its stars! BB-8 is a robotic ball with a small rounded robot head on top. It moves around in the same way as Sphero, by rolling very fast in all directions. A clever system keeps the head more or less on top of the robot as it moves and changes direction. BB-8 is easier to control than a Sphero, because its head always looks in the direction where it is headed. BB-8 interacts and is controlled via its own smartphone/tablet apps, and is quite the character, as you might expect of a film star.
